
Sexual health medicine is a relatively young specialty in Australia, having been accepted by the Australian Government as a medical specialty in 2009. The Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM) is a chapter of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP).
As a discipline, sexual health medicine covers all aspects of sexuality and sexual health including sexually transmissible infections, contraception, sexual function, sexuality and gender identity, sexual freedom and sexual assault medicine. This incorporates areas such as STI management, HIV management, viral hepatitis management, contraceptive advice and provision, pre-pregnancy advice, pregnancy options counselling, transgender medicine, management of disorders of sexual function, management of vulvodynia, management of pelvic pain, sexual health promotion, PEP assessment, PrEP prescribing and management, testosterone replacement therapy, menopause management, cervical screening, and genital dermatology.
